Acoustic Diagnostics

Acoustic performance and real-time monitoring diagnostics for each of the currently deployed platforms can be found here.

Reference Guide

The reference guide contains instructions on how to install and use the desktop LFDCS, instructions on how to review LFDCS data generated in near real time by a DMON-equipped autonomous platform, and the analyst protocol for detecting sei, fin, humpback, and right whales in the northwest Atlantic Ocean. The protocol is used so that results are standardized and consistent among different analysts.  The link below brings you to the latest version of the Guide.

Training videos

Recorded training modules are available to guide users through the use of both the desktop LFDCS as well as the analysis of near real-time LFDCS data generated from DMON-equipped autonomous platforms. Note that an in-person practicum is required to be fully qualified as a near real-time DMON/LFDCS analyst.  Training videos are available from a tutorial provided on March 7, 2022 at the 9th Workshop on Detection, Classification, Localization and Density Estimation (DCLDE) of Marine Mammals using Passive Acoustics in Honolulu, Hawaii, as well as on June 3, 2024 at the 10th DCLDE Workshop in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.  Both tutorials cover the fundamentals of the LFDCS and are ~95% identical, but the 2024 tutorial includes a preview of the multi-platform version of LFDCS for Mac, Windows and Linux.
